  • 23 March: World Meteorological Day was established on 23 March 1950, World Meteorological Day is celebrated every year on 23 March in its memory.
  • Theme (in 2020): Climate and Water
  • World Meteorological Organization: World Meteorological Organization is an intergovernmental organization, it works in the field of weather, climate and water resources etc. It is the exclusive agency of the United Nations. There are currently 191 members. It began in 1873 as the International Meteorological Organization. Later on 23 March 1950 it was established as World Meteorological Organization. Its headquarters are located in Geneva, Switzerland.

  • March 23: Martyr’s Day on March 23, 1931, three great freedom fighters of India, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were sentenced to death. The death penalty for these great freedom fighters was ordered on 24 March 1931 in the Lahore Conspiracy Case. But he was hanged at 7 pm on 23 March 1931.

  • A website launched by the SAARC Disaster Management Center for information on COVID-19 The Disaster Management Center of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation has launched a website related to COVID-19. This website shows the number of corona virus cases in member states.

  • The SAARC Disaster Management Center was established in 2016 at the Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management. The center provides training and capacity building services. It also facilitates the exchange of information between SAARC members for effective disaster risk management. SAARC members include Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Maldives, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.

  • Punjab became the first state in the country to impose curfew due to COVID-19; Punjab government has imposed curfew in the entire state without any exemption. The Punjab government has taken this decision to stop the spread of coronovirus. With this move, Punjab has become the first state in India to impose curfew.

  • Fitch Ratings slashed India’s growth rate estimate to 5.1 per cent. Fitch Ratings, which released ratings on economies, reduced India’s GDP growth to 5.1% in FY 2020-21. Earlier Fitch Ratings had pegged India’s growth rate estimate at 5.6%.

  • Satyarup Siddhanta, the first Indian mountaineer to climb the summit of seven volcanoes, Satyarup Siddhanta has been named in the Limca Book of Records (LBR) as the first Indian to climb the highest volcano on 7 continents. He also set a new record as the world’s youngest climber climbing the summits of 7 peaks and 7 volcanoes.

    • Ojos del Salado (6,893 m) in Chile.
    • Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) in Tanzania, South America, Africa.
    • Mount Elbrus in Russia, Europe (5,642 m).
    • Mount Pico de Orizaba (5,636 m) in Mexico, North America.
    • Mount Damavand in Iran, Asia (5,610 m).
    • Mount Giluwe (4,367 m) in Papua New Guinea, Australia.
    • Mount Sidley in Antarctica (4,285 m).
  • Apart from this, the name of Satyarup Siddhant has been included in Guinness Book of World Records, Asia Book of Records, India Book of Records, Champion Book of Records, British Book of Records etc.
  • Limca Book of Records (LBR): Limca Book of Records is a book of achievements made by Indians through humanitarian efforts in many different countries in India or abroad. It is the second most prestigious book of records in the world after the Guinness Book of World Records.

  • The release of the book ‘Messiah Modi: A Great Tale of Expectations’ written by Tavleen Singh, published by Collins India, has released the details of the personal meeting the author once had with the Prime Minister. Also, the book highlights PM Modi’s views on lynching, Article 370, the most controversial law from demonetisation, the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act).

  • The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the first rapid test of the corona virus. This Food and Drug Administration is the same company that is the developer of this test. This test will reveal the corona infected person in just 45 minutes.

  • SBI launched “Kovid-19 Emergency Credit Line (CECL)” State Bank of India has launched an additional liquidity facility “Kovid-19 Emergency Credit Line (CECL)”.
    • About Covid-19 Emergency Credit Line (CECL): With CECL, SBI will facilitate funds up to Rs 200 crore which will be available by June 30, 2020. CECL will be available as a 12-month demand loan at an interest rate of 7.25 percent. This facility will be available for all standard accounts that are not classified as Special Mention Accounts (SMA) 1 or 2 till March 16, 2020. Under the CECL facility, borrowers will be allowed to avail a maximum of 10% of the existing fund on the basis of working capital limit up to Rs 200 crore.  
  • About Special Mention Accounts or Special Mention Accounts (SMA) 1 or 2: Special Mention Accounts (SMA) -1: are accounts where the overdue period is between 31 and 60 days, while SMA -2 The overdue period is between 61 and 90 days

  • ICICI Lombard has launched a policy of Rs 149 to cover the patients of COVID-19, with an insurance cover of Rs 25,000.
  • In this insurance policy, all persons between the age of 18-75 will be covered.
  • The term of the policy is limited to 1 year.
  • This policy will not cover those people who have come to travel abroad after 31 December 2019, people who are very likely to get infected, or who are afraid of it before its start date or initial 14-days COVID-19 is quarantined or COVID- 19 is given treatment.
  • ICICI Lombard has introduced the policy as an “ethos of promise” (keeping promises) on the basis of ethics to introduce industry-first initiatives to its customers.
